The hidden job market is not a secret to
anyone. Approximately 80% of jobs are not published; meaning that employers are
filling the positions by promoting their staff or employees' referrals. In this
way is much easier, faster and cheaper.
Accessing the hidden job market is not
easy; HR experts suggest: contact potential employers, use your network, make
new connections on Linkedin, join a job-finding club and a professional
association, visit career fairs, volunteer, attend conferences, speak with
alumni, conduct information interviews, etc. Uff... Exhausted? But what if none
of this is enough and you still cannot find a job?
Good Golem (www.goodgolem.com) tackles the
hidden job market by giving job seekers the opportunity to buy their next job.
www.goodgolem.com |
How it works?
Someone that is about to leave its job
publishes the position at Good Golem and defines the wished amount for helping
a job seeker getting the job. The job
seller decides if is willing to provide some job training, talk to Human
Resources, act as a reference, introduce to the boss, tweak Resume/Cover Letter
to fit position, prepare for the interview to ensure success and more.
Every posting will stay active for 3 weeks.
Job buyers send their Résumés and bid for the position. Job buyers only pay
until they have been hired and paid.
Good Golem does not assure that all jobs
posted are real positions, but the website offers some recommendations to
prevent dishonest behaviours and ensure the safety of all buyers and sellers.
It allows users to stay anonymous. "We do not verify any listings or identity of
posters - so you should use same precautions and common sense when dealing with
job sellers as you would when dealing with people from Kijiji or Craigslist".
For the moment Good Golem only has job opportunities
available for the Great Toronto Area, but do not be surprised if in a few
months it grows exponentially and has employment opportunities for other North
American cities, given the amount of job seekers that have been unable to
overcome the barriers of the hidden job market.
